Adventure, honour, and belonging
Northern Lights is the Pathfinder Club of Edmonton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pathfinders is a worldwide programme of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for young people aged 10 to 15, built on the simple idea that faith grows fastest when it is lived outdoors, in a team, with something real to do.
Our Pathfinders learn to pitch a tent and read a compass, earn honours in everything from first aid to astronomy, march in drill, serve their neighbours, and study the Bible together. Along the way they collect a uniform, a sash full of patches, and a set of friendships that tend to outlast the club years.

What a Pathfinder year looks like
The club year runs alongside the school year, with weekly Sabbath meetings, monthly outings, and a handful of larger events that everyone remembers long afterwards. In May 2026 the club camped at Pembina River Provincial Park and joined the Adventurers for a combined outdoor potluck.
The Oasis
The Oasis is the club’s own food and drink stand, run by Pathfinders to raise funds for camp-outs, uniforms, and honours. It is also where a lot of practical skills get learned: handling money, serving people, and finishing what you start.
Questions parents ask
How old does my child need to be to join Pathfinders?
Pathfinders is for young people aged 10 to 15. Children aged 4 to 9 belong in our Aurora Borealis Adventurer Club, and those older than 15 can train as staff or begin the Master Guide programme.
Do we need to be Seventh-day Adventist to join?
No. Northern Lights welcomes children from every family and every background. Pathfinders is a Christian club and Bible study is part of it, but you do not need to be a member of our church, or of any church, to belong here.
When and where does the club meet?
The club meets on Sabbath at Edmonton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, 10131 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton. Call the church office at 780-420-0215 for the current meeting time, which shifts slightly with the club calendar.
What does it cost, and what about the uniform?
There is an annual club fee that covers registration, insurance, and club activities, and the uniform is purchased separately. Cost is never the reason a child cannot join. Speak to Director Bobby George or the church office and it will be worked out quietly.
What is the Pathfinder Bible Experience?
PBE is a team Bible study competition. Each year teams study an assigned book of the Bible in depth and compete through area, conference, union, and division levels.
Can I help even if my child is not in the club?
Yes. Clubs run on adult volunteers: counsellors, instructors, drivers, and camp cooks. Adults working with children complete the required screening. Contact the office to start.
