What Youth & Young Adults is

The division’s own guidance on youth ministry is blunt about this: today’s teenagers are tomorrow’s church leaders, so involve them in leadership now. A youth programme that entertains young people without ever trusting them with anything real has misunderstood the job.

Youth and young adult ministry at Edmonton Central covers a wide span — high school students still at home, university students, and twenty-somethings working out faith alongside work, relationships and what comes next. Those are genuinely different seasons, and pretending otherwise is why a lot of church youth programmes lose people at eighteen.

What holds it together is that young people here are not managed from a distance. They plan, they lead, they serve, and when something matters to them it goes on the calendar.

What this looks like here

Power UpOur midweek youth gathering, Wednesdays at 6:00 PM, in person and online, just before the prayer meeting.
Service that costs somethingFeeding the homeless, food drive routes, and community work where the young people do the actual work.
Social that is genuinely socialMovie nights at the park, the Amazing Race afternoon, and the kind of gathering that builds a group rather than filling an evening.
Room to ask hard thingsFaith, doubt, relationships, mental health and vocation, discussed honestly rather than deflected.
Leadership handed overYoung people run programmes here, including communications and creative work, with support rather than supervision.
Into the wider churchConnection to Alberta Conference youth events and North American Division youth ministry.

Common questions

What age is this for?

Broadly high school age through the twenties. If you are somewhere near that range and looking for your people, come.

When does Power Up meet?

Wednesday evenings at 6:00 PM, ahead of the 7:00 PM prayer meeting. Both in person and online.

I am not Adventist. Is that a problem?

No. Bring your questions. Nobody will corner you, and you will not be asked to sign anything.
