Church Policy

We are part of a worldwide church that puts its commitments in writing. These are the standards Edmonton Central operates under, and the documents behind them.

Protecting children and vulnerable people

Every person who serves with children or youth at Edmonton Central, paid or volunteer, completes the Alberta Conference volunteer screening process before they begin. That covers Sabbath School teachers, Pathfinder and Adventurer staff, children’s church helpers, and anyone else in a position of trust with a minor.

Common questions

Does everyone who works with our children get screened?
Yes. Every person serving with children or youth at Edmonton Central, paid or volunteer, must complete the Alberta Conference volunteer screening process before they begin. It applies to Sabbath School teachers, Pathfinder and Adventurer staff, children’s church helpers, and anyone else in a position of trust with a minor.
I want to volunteer with the children. What do I do first?
Speak to the church office on 780-420-0215 or use the volunteer form. You will be given the Volunteer Ministry Information Form and taken through screening before you start. Both documents are linked above.
I have a concern about a child’s safety. Who do I talk to?
Contact a pastor or the church office immediately on 780-420-0215. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 first. In Alberta, anyone who has reason to believe a child needs intervention has a legal duty to report it to Children’s Services.
Who decides how this church is run?
Edmonton Central is a member congregation of the Alberta Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. How a local church elects officers, holds business meetings, receives and transfers members, and handles discipline is set out in the Seventh-day Adventist Church Manual, voted by the world church in General Conference session.
Can I read the Church Manual myself?
Yes. It is public and free. The current edition is linked in the governance section above, straight from the General Conference.
How do I get a policy that is not listed here?
Ask the church office on 780-420-0215 or through the contact page and we will point you to the right document or the right person at the conference.
